Bio:

As a third year medical student at The University of Virginia School of Medicine, Dr. Dukes decided to pursue anesthesiology as a specialty. She was enthralled with the operating room and enchanted with the ability of an anesthesiologist to implement understanding of pharmacology, anatomy, physiology, disease etiology, and patient advocacy into patient care. The mix of the art of medicine with science in anesthesia left her in awe.

She completed her residency in New York City at Columbia University where she furthered her understanding of the specialty and eventually decided to further subspecialize in pediatric anesthesia.

Once she completed her fellowship at Columbia University, she subsequently practiced as a pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist at Yale University.

As her husband is a native of Newport News, the couple made the decision to move and raise their children near family. They absolutely love the weather, unique career opportunities, and special warm environments of CHKD.

• Medicine in resource-poor communities (urban medicine)

• Medical missions
