Bio:

Dr. Basinger specializes in medical genetics, a branch of medicine that focuses on our genes and how changes to genes can cause genetic disorders.

Families who come to see the team in the genetics clinic may be searching for a diagnosis for their child, or their child may already be diagnosed with a genetic disorder and in need of counseling and care over time.

Dr. Basinger’s specialy interests are diagnosis and treatment of metabolic disorders, which are genetic disorders of the biochemistry of the body. She also has a specialy interest in newborn screening.

The medical genetics team helps families understand the basics of human genetics and inheritance, suggests a testing plan if that is needed, and provides education on the child’s diagnosis and management plan.

Dr. Basinger enjoys answering questions, getting to know families over time, and learning how to work together for the child’s benefit.

Outside of work, she enjoys time with family and friends, cooking, exercising, and reading. She has a soft spot for pollinators and the plants that support them, farm stands, public libraries, and visiting the beach.

Clinical Interests:

  • Inborn errors of metabolism
  • Newborn screening
  • Congenital disorders of glycosylation
