Bio:

Dr. Ellis, a native Virginian who grew up in Richmond, earned a bachelor’s degree in ecology and evolutionary biology from Princeton University, and then spent two years working in the rainforests in Panama and earning a master’s of science in biology from McGill University in Montreal. He returned home from his medical training at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. His postgraduate training was at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Dr. Ellis  did additional post-fellowship training on adult congenital heart disease with Dr. Gary Webb of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Ellis is one of only two Adult Congenital Heart Disease board-certified cardiologists in Hampton Roads, with practice partner Dr. Lopa Hartke being the other. There are currently fewer than 200 certified ACHD physicians in the country. Outside of medicine, he is a competitive runner, and is interested in cycling and swimming. He enjoys spending time on the water, especially boating, paddle-boarding, and kayaking on the Lynnhaven Bay and Chesapeake Bay. He is an amateur photographer and enjoys travel and spending time with his wife and two children.
