Pediatric Inpatient Staff Psychologist

Join the Child Psychiatry and Psychology division of Children’s Specialty Group (CSG) at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) in Norfolk, Virginia. CHKD is lighting the way to a brighter future for our children by transforming the way mental health care is delivered to children and teens. As part of CHKD’s commitment to address a critical mental health crisis among youth, the health system is building a $224 million, 60-bed mental health hospital, which includes a partial hospitalization program and robust outpatient services.  

CHKD and Children’s Specialty Group (CSG) are currently looking for an exceptional candidates to fill out inpatient child clinical psychologist position who will provide a full range of direct and indirect care service in an innovative interdisciplinary setting. Direct psychological services include evidence-based assessment and treatment to youth with acute mental health needs and co-occurring medical concerns and their families. Indirect patient care includes program development and teaching; collaboration with nursing, psychiatry, and pediatrics, and any other specialties as appropriate; and clinical supervision. Faculty appointment at Eastern Virginia Medical School is available for qualified individuals. Opportunities to conduct research are open to discussion. 

Education: Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, either PsyD or PhD from an APA/CPA accredited program, as well as completion of an APA/CPA accredited internship. Licensed, or eligible for licensure as a Clinical Psychologist by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Board of Psychology

Experience: Previous clinical experience in pediatric/clinical child and adolescent psychology treating youth with complex psychiatric problems. Experience with implementation of evidence-based treatment approaches (e.g., DBT, PCIT, TF-CBT, FBT). Experience providing clinical supervision to mental health providers. 

Skills: Experience or certification in any of the below evidenced-based modalities preferred, advanced training in other modalities also considered: Parent Child Interaction Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Based Therapy for Anorexia Nervosa, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.

Patient Account Representative

Position responsibilities:

  • Assign codes to diagnoses and procedures, using ICD (International Classification of Diseases) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes
  • Ensure codes are accurate and sequenced correctly in accordance with ICD guidelines
  • Follow up with the provider on any documentation that is insufficient or unclear
  • Communicate with other staff regarding documentation
  • Search for information in cases where the coding is complex or unusual
  • Receive and review patient charts and documents for accuracy
  • Ensure that all codes are current and active
  • Active certification as a professional coder, CPC or equivalent
  • Familiarity with ICD-10 codes and procedures
  • Critical care and Intensive care coding a plus

Genetic Counselor

We are seeking a dynamic, self-motivated, and highly organized genetic counselor to join our multi-disciplinary team of geneticists, genetic counselors, metabolic dietician, and genetic counseling assistant.

Responsibilities:

  • Genetic counselor will establish genetic counseling agenda with patients and their family
  • Assist in psychosocial genetic counseling regarding genetic hereditary conditions Coordinate, administer, and deliver genetic counseling to patients and families at risk for genetic or hereditary disorders or inborn errors of metabolism. Assess recurrence risks, and recommend and order genetic testing based on analysis of risks, benefits, and costs.
  • Collaborate with physicians regarding patient care and management.

Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)- Full Time

Children’s Specialty Group, LLC (CSG) division of Pediatric Anesthesiology is recruiting full-time CRNAs for surgical services provided at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) in Norfolk, Virginia.  You will join a large team of 21 Anesthesiologists and 6 CRNAs. Our division performs over 14,000 anesthetics per year in all surgical disciplines, including general surgery, ENT, orthopedics, urology, ophthalmology, GI, dental, oral and maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery and cardiovascular surgery.  Candidates would be conducting cases in an anesthesia team model in all disciplines except for cardiovascular surgery. The successful candidate will have a current Virginia license and CRNA certification. Pediatric experience is preferred but not required.

Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant- Pediatric Emergency Department

Division of Emergency Medicine

The Emergency Department at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters is part of the region’s only free-standing pediatric hospital and only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, the emergency department cares for children presenting after trauma, with medical emergencies, acute and chronic illness. A dedicated team of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and emergency technicians care for over 50,000 children per year. The Division of Emergency Medicine is recruiting physician assistants and pediatric nurse practitioners interested in joining a dynamic team of providers for a long-term commitment. We currently have opportunities for advanced practice providers in the main treatment and minor care area within the Emergency Department.

Minor Care Area Position (Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant)

Responsibilities:

The APP is responsible for the assessment and care of patients presenting with acute illness, asthma exacerbation, mild dehydration, and orthopedic injuries. Upon completion of orientation, the nurse practitioner is expected to demonstrate competency in incision and drainage; foreign body removal ear, nose, skin; repair of scalp and simple skin laceration. Candidates should possess a strong work ethic and enjoy working with team members to deliver efficient quality patient care.

On a monthly basis, the APP will be scheduled as an Up-Front Provider for a portion of their required clinical shifts. Responsibilities of the UFP include medical management and discharge of patients requiring minimal treatment, assist the triage nurse with monitoring waiting room patients, initiate orders and power plans on waiting room patients, and culture follow up.

Physician- Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiologist

Physician- Pediatric Dermatology

Our dermatology team currently includes two pediatric dermatologists and two physician assistants. Psychologist- Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

CHKD is lighting the way to a brighter future for our children by transforming the way mental health care is delivered to children and teens. As part of CHKD’s commitment to address a critical mental health crisis among youth, the health system is building a $224 million, 60-bed mental health hospital, which includes a partial hospitalization program and robust outpatient services.

CHKD and Children’s Specialty Group (CSG) are currently looking for exceptional candidates to fill several child clinical psychologist positions. Located in Norfolk, Virginia, CHKD is the state’s only freestanding children’s hospital. The teaching hospital is a part of the Hampton Roads region, located 150 miles from Washington DC and less than a two-hour drive from the pristine barrier islands that comprise North Carolina’s Outer Banks.

Autism Psychologist The psychologist will provide direct care services and supervision for evaluation and behavioral interventions to children with autism spectrum disorder on a small inpatient unit. Duties include supervising direct care staff, collaborating with the unit’s interdisciplinary team, and supporting and educating parents in group and individual settings.

Inpatient Psychologist The psychologist will consult to the inpatient milieus and treatment teams to align behavioral plans and treatment goals, direct and lead group therapies, and provide evidence-based treatment and assessment to children and families. Candidates should possess teaching skills to participate in staff training, curriculum development, and evaluation.

Outpatient Psychologist The psychologist will provide evidence-based treatment and assessment to children and families and possess the teaching skills required to train a variety of learners in our training programs. Candidates should have experience supervising mental health providers and conducting evaluations and psychotherapy with children and adults.

Sports Psychologist –The sports psychologist will provide outpatient clinical services to the division of sports medicine as well as the division of psychiatry and psychology using mental health assessment and treatment as well as performance-focused interventions with children, families, performing artists, and athletes of all ages including those at the college level. Candidates must possess the consultation and teaching skills required to support interdisciplinary care within our health system. Candidates should have experience with sport performance, return from injury, disordered eating in sport, sport culture, and team dynamics.

Experience, Education, and Training Requirements:
• Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, either PsyD or PhD from an APA/CPA accredited program, as well as completion of an APA/CPA accredited internship.
• Experience conducting psychological evaluations and psychotherapy with children, adolescents, and adults.
• Experience and comfort working as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Experience providing clinical supervision to mental health providers.
• Must be licensed (or license eligible) as a Clinical Psychologist by the Virginia Board of Psychology.
• Certification and advanced training in any of the below evidence-based modalities preferred: Parent Child Interaction Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Based Therapy for Anorexia Nervosa, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Advanced training in other modalities also considered.

Psychologist- Division of Developmental Pediatrics

Children’s Specialty Group (CSG) and Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) is seeking a full time doctoral– level psychologist to work in the Department of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics to join our interdisciplinary team of developmental pediatricians, nurse practitioners, psychologists, social workers, educational consultants, and other support staff.

The focus of this position is to conduct assessments with children and adolescents regarding concerns for developmental disabilities, and there are opportunities to provide therapy services as well. Specifically, the clinician would administer a range of psychological tests to children and adolescents, and score and interpret test data. The psychologist would then present recommendations for treatment and links children to education and therapeutic services during the feedback session. Test administration is based on an understanding of age, culture, and developmental level. The psychologist documents patient care in the electronic medical record according to regulatory agency guidelines. Additional job duties may include supervision and training of non-licensed staff and collaborative work with pediatricians, therapy providers, and community organizations.

The candidate must possess a doctorate degree in clinical or school psychology with a Virginia state license, or be license eligible in Virginia. Post-doctoral education must include training and experience in conducting developmental evaluations. Preferred qualifications include: 2 years post licensure experience, one year of pediatric experience with children under the age of 6, recent experience in a pediatric setting, and competency with tests such as Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule Second Edition (ADOS-2) and cognitive measures including Wechsler assessments and Differential Ability Scales.
