Pediatric Pathologist

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Children’s Specialty Group (CSG) and Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) is seeking board-certified or board-eligible Pediatric Pathologist (MD or DO) with board certification in Clinical and Anatomical Pathology.

CHKD is a tertiary-care pediatric hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, and the only free-standing pediatric hospital in the state. The hospital is a level 1 trauma center that has an academic affiliation with Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) with training and educational programs (residency) in most pediatric medicine and surgical specialties.  The department is also involved in multiple education programs, including an active Medical Laboratory Scientist program.

Staff Psychologist, Intensive Services, Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

General Summary

The Staff Psychologist for PHP is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who will provide a full range of direct and indirect care services in an innovative interdisciplinary setting. Direct psychological services include evidence-based assessment and treatment to children and families. Indirect patient care includes program development and teaching; collaboration with nursing, psychiatry, and pediatrics, and any other specialties as appropriate; and clinical supervision. Faculty appointment at Eastern Virginia Medical School is available for qualified individuals. Opportunities to conduct research are open to discussion. Reports to PHP Clinical Program Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical/Direct Patient Care

  • Utilizing evidence-based practices, conduct clinical assessments, formulate case conceptualization, and develop treatment plans for youth with significant mental health needs receiving intensive therapeutic treatment.
  • Facilitate and lead group therapy for patients across ages/developmental levels.
  • Provide individual therapy to youth with complex mental health needs and, potentially, co-occurring acute or chronic physical health concerns.
  • Provide family-based interventions and support.
  • Conduct behavioral analyses and develop individualized behavior plans.
  • Support milieu staff, nurses, and other providers with implementation of individualized behavior and treatment plans.
  • Communicate treatment goals and plan to parents/caregivers.
  • Facilitate and lead psychoeducational groups for parents/caregivers and other family members.
  • Participate, via phone, in after-hours coverage of crisis therapeutic support for patients and families.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and function within an interdisciplinary team approach.
  • Conduct psychological assessments.
  • Provide consultation to other levels of care within the Mental Health Service Line (MHSL) and, as needed, provide support to patients receiving care within other programs of the MHSL.
  • Meet departmental expectations for clinical service delivery.

Program Development and Implementation

  • Assist in implementation of evidence-based practices for partial-hospitalization setting to meet the various mental and behavioral health needs of children and adolescents requiring intensive service delivery.
  • Monitor implementation to ensure fidelity and feasibility of service delivery.
  • Research and obtain information on best and current practices from other programs to improve this program’s service delivery.
  • Participate in projects related to quality service delivery at various levels of the continuum of care, to include curriculum development and staff training.

Other Professional Activities

  • Provide support to milieu staff, nurses, and other providers to ensure appropriate implementation of behavioral programming and alignment with Mental Health Service Line’s mission and goals.
  • Provide clinical supervision to trainees and students and facilitate individual and/or group supervision, as needed.
  • Problem solve challenging care dynamics in a professional and supportive manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Licenses and/or Certifications

  • Licensed, or eligible for licensure, as a Clinical Psychologist by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Board of Psychology

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, either a PsyD or PhD from an APA/CPA accredited program.
  • Successful completion of an APA/CPA accredited pre-doctoral internship.
  • Previous clinical experience in treating youth with complex psychiatric problems.
  • Experience with implementation of evidence-based treatment approaches (e.g., DBT, PCIT, TF-CBT, FBT).

Pediatric Nurse Practitioner/Physician's Assistant -- PICU/Critical Care

Seeking additional Full-time, Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioners or Physician’s Assistants for a busy, 32-bed multi-disciplinary PICU in the only free-standing children’s hospital in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Averaging 1200 admissions per year with a nearly 50/50 split with medical and surgical patients, we care for the full-spectrum of severely ill and injured children. Unique to our program is a large Pediatric Residency and no ICU fellows. The team consists of a dedicated clinical pharmacist, nutritionist, social worker, chaplain, child life specialist, discharge coordinator, respiratory therapists, nurses and physicians.  The successful candidates will be joining 8.5 FTE BC intensivists plus 2 full-time acute care NP’s.   We partner with the University of Virginia in our Congenital Cardiac Surgery program and care for post-operative cardiac patients as part of our PICU population.  Candidates with Cardiac Intensive Care expertise and training are strongly urged to apply.

We also encourage all APP’s who have completed a fellowship program/residency to apply.

Large Pediatric Sub-Specialty Practice seeking a full-time Patient Account Representative. The responsibilities for this position will include researching over/under paid claims, checking payor websites, reviewing correspondences, and placing calls to resolve credit balances. Tasks also involve correcting posting errors, and processing refunds.

Behavioral Health Technician

General Job Summary

Responsible for assisting licensed independent providers in an outpatient mental health setting in conducting front end assessments. This includes but is not limited to: gathering history of present illness and psychosocial data via clinical interview, documenting behavioral observations, triaging clinical needs and supporting referrals to services, preparing documentation from clinical encounters, collecting and scoring screening measures. Assists physicians and psychologists in coordinating patient care. May co-facilitate group psychotherapy with a licensed mental health provider.  Functions as a liaison between patients, staff, and physicians/psychologists.

Primary Job Responsibilities/Tasks:

  1. Obtains patient consent for care
  2. Reviews relevant medical records and results
  3. Obtains and documents health history, information on chief complaint and interval history, and health risk factors and assesses condition. Under supervision, provides patient education based on practice guidelines, standards of care, and federal/state laws and regulations.
  4. Documents patient assessment and recommended plan of care data using established medical record forms/automated systems and documentation practices.
  5. Under the supervision of the physician or psychologist, prepares preliminary patient encounter documentation. These records will be thoroughly reviewed, appropriately edited and/or modified by the licensed provider prior to being signed in the patient’s official electronic medical record.
  6. Submit, track, and coordinate referrals recommended within the plan of care.
  7. Support de-escalation of crisis behavior and coordinate transition to appropriate level of care as needed, under supervision.
  8. Maintains/reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information. Ensures appropriate follow-up in alignment with organizational guidance.
  9. Maintains patient confidentiality.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned by the OP MHSL Medical Director and/or Director of Psychology.

Training and Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or human services preferred. Certification as a Mental/Behavior Health Technician or Qualified Mental Health Professional preferred. At least one year of clinical experience as a Mental/Behavioral Health technician or equivalent is preferred. Professional experience with children is preferred.

Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)- Full Time

Children’s Specialty Group, LLC (CSG) division of Pediatric Anesthesiology is recruiting full-time CRNAs for surgical services provided at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) in Norfolk, Virginia.  You will join a large team of 21 Anesthesiologists and 6 CRNAs. Our division performs over 14,000 anesthetics per year in all surgical disciplines, including general surgery, ENT, orthopedics, urology, ophthalmology, GI, dental, oral and maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery and cardiovascular surgery.  Candidates would be conducting cases in an anesthesia team model in all disciplines except for cardiovascular surgery. The successful candidate will have a current Virginia license and CRNA certification. Pediatric experience is preferred but not required.

This position is within the CSG Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. CHKD’s emergency department (30 beds) cares for over 50,000 patients each year and is growing rapidly.

Position Description

Advanced Practice Providers will provide emergency care in the main treatment area of the emergency department in the late evenings (7pm – 3am) and overnight (11pm – 7am) alongside pediatric emergency medicine physicians. Providers will be involved in caring for a wide spectrum of injury and illness. It is an excellent opportunity to enhance your pediatric acute care skills with access to didactics and mentored training.

Experience, Education, and Training Minimum

Current Virginia state license as a Registered Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Registered Family Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant holding a valid Compact State license. Minimum of 1 year of clinical nursing experience in critical care, urgent care, or emergency department preferred. Pediatric experience preferred. Current clinical competence required. BLS and PALS required.

Physician- Pediatric Pathologist

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Children’s Specialty Group (CSG) and Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) is seeking an M.D. or D.O., board-certified or board-­eligible Pediatric Pathologist and board certified in Clinical and Anatomical Pathology.

The successful candidate will be responsible for signing out approximately 5550 general pediatric surgical pathology cases, including liver biopsies, pediatric non-gynecologic cytology and autopsies. An average of 50 new malignancies, of which approximately are of hematologic origin, are received each year. Surgical pathology cases include about 1700 gastrointestinal biopsy accessions, 165 bone marrow and 20 autopsies/year. Clinical pathology duties include sign-out of blood smears, bone marrows, hemoglobin electrophoreses, cytology and consultation with laboratory staff and clinicians. The candidate is also expected to be involved in teaching various student levels, conference presentations, and collaborative research activities with various clinical sections as requested. Opportunities to become the Medical Director of Laboratory, including Transfusion Service and three Urgent Care Center laboratories will be available.

CHKD is a tertiary care, pediatric health care hospital in Norfolk, Virginia and the only free-standing pediatric hospital in the state. The hospital is a level 1 trauma center that has an academic affiliation with Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) with training and educational programs (residency) in most pediatric medicine and surgical specialties. The department is also involved in multiple education programs, including an active Medical Laboratory Scientist program.

Psychologist- Division of Developmental Pediatrics

Children’s Specialty Group (CSG) and Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) is seeking a full time doctoral– level psychologist to work in the Department of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics to join our interdisciplinary team of developmental pediatricians, nurse practitioners, psychologists, social workers, educational consultants, and other support staff.

The focus of this position is to conduct assessments with children and adolescents regarding concerns for developmental disabilities, and there are opportunities to provide therapy services as well. Specifically, the clinician would administer a range of psychological tests to children and adolescents, and score and interpret test data. The psychologist would then present recommendations for treatment and links children to education and therapeutic services during the feedback session. Test administration is based on an understanding of age, culture, and developmental level. The psychologist documents patient care in the electronic medical record according to regulatory agency guidelines. Additional job duties may include supervision and training of non-licensed staff and collaborative work with pediatricians, therapy providers, and community organizations.

The candidate must possess a doctorate degree in clinical or school psychology with a Virginia state license, or be license eligible in Virginia. Post-doctoral education must include training and experience in conducting developmental evaluations. Preferred qualifications include: 2 years post licensure experience, one year of pediatric experience with children under the age of 6, recent experience in a pediatric setting, and competency with tests such as Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule Second Edition (ADOS-2) and cognitive measures including Wechsler assessments and Differential Ability Scales.

General Summary

The Clinical Director of the Intensive Services – Neurodevelopmental Unit (NDU) is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist whose responsibilities combine clinical activities and leadership, providing a full range of direct and indirect care services in an innovative interdisciplinary setting. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Development and Evaluation

  • Develop and oversee implementation of evidence-based practices and procedures to provide intensive inpatient programming for youth with neurodevelopmental disorders on a specialty inpatient unit.
  • Monitor implementation to ensure fidelity and feasibility of service delivery.
  • Research and obtain information on best and current practices from other programs to improve this program’s service delivery.
  • Function as the clinical expert in care of children with neurodevelopmental needs and provide consultation to other CHKD Mental Health Service Line (MHSL) programs and services.
  • When appropriate, assist in development of treatment programs for Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Services in collaboration with relevant program leadership.
  • Oversee data collection and analysis for NDU team metrics.
  • Continually assess care delivery to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.

Leadership

  • Provide clinical support to milieu staff, nurses, and other providers to ensure appropriate implementation of behavioral programming and alignment with MHSL’s mission and goals.
  • Provide clinical supervision to psychology trainees and students and facilitate individual and/or group supervision as needed.
  • Problem solve challenging care dynamics in a professional and supportive manner.
  • Provide unit level training when necessary (e.g., provide training leading to Registered Behavior Technician certification for unit staff).

Clinical/Direct Patient Care

  • Conduct behavioral analyses and develop individualized behavior and treatment plans for youth admitted to NDU.
  • Communicate treatment goals and plan to parents/caregivers.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices to promote improved behavioral functioning.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines in reviewing referred patients and coordinating admissions.
  • Conduct psychological assessments in the outpatient setting as needed.
  • Facilitate and lead psychoeducational groups for parents/caregivers and other family members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Licenses and/or Certifications
  • Licensed, or eligible for licensure, as a Clinical Psychologist by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Board of Psychology.
  • Advanced training in Applied Behavior Analysis or intensive behavioral intervention approaches.

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, either a PsyD or PhD from an APA/CPA accredited program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Development and Implementation

Psychologist- Division of Psychiatry Outpatient Pediatric Psychologist

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Outpatient Pediatric Psychologist is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who will provide a full range of direct and indirect care services primarily within an outpatient setting. Direct psychological services include evidence-based assessment and treatment of illness, injury, and health promoting behaviors in children, adolescents, and families. Indirect patient care includes consultation and collaboration with psychiatry, pediatrics, and other sub-specialties as appropriate; and clinical supervision. Faculty appointment at Eastern Virginia Medical School is available for qualified individuals. Opportunities to conduct research are open to discussion. Reports to Director of Psychology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical/Direct Patient Care

  • Utilizing evidence-based practice and procedures, provide individual, family, and group therapy to children and adolescents with mental health needs and co-occurring acute or chronic physical health concerns
  • Communicate treatment goals and plan to parents/caregivers and members of the treatment team.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices to promote improved behavioral and emotional functioning.
  • Develop and facilitate health-related therapeutic and/or psychoeducational groups for children, adolescents and parents/caregivers.
  • In collaboration with other medical specialties, assist in clinical case conceptualization and treatment planning for youth with complex mental health and physical health concerns.
  • Coordinate treatment with other disciplines and function within an interdisciplinary team approach.
  • Conduct psychological assessments to assist with diagnosis and treatment planning.
    Program Development and Implementation
  • Participate in projects related to quality service delivery at various levels of the continuum of care, to include curriculum development and staff training.
  • When appropriate, assist in development of programs for outpatient, Medical-Psychiatric and Psychiatric-Medical Hospitalization in collaboration with relevant program leadership.
    Other Professional Activities
  • Provide support and coverage to other medical units and programs (Consultation Liaison, Med-Psych, Psych-Med) that serve children with mental health needs and co-occurring acute and chronic physical health conditions.
  • Provide clinical supervision to psychology trainees and students and facilitate individual and/or group supervision as needed.
  • Provide education to staff about health psychology topics and the application of integrated care

Children’s Specialty Group and CHKD are seeking a full-time outpatient sports psychologist committed to delivering high-quality care to join our growing team.

The psychologist (PhD or PsyD) will provide mental health assessment and treatment as well as performance-focused interventions to children, performing artists, and athletes of all ages including those at the college level. Candidates must possess the consultation and teaching skills required to support interdisciplinary care within our health system. Experience, Education, and Training Requirements:

  • Doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology, either PsyD or PhD from an APA/CPA accredited program, as well as completion of an APA/CPA accredited internship.
  • Coursework in the area of sport psychology and prior supervised training and experience working with individual athletes, performers, teams, coaches, administrators, and parents.
  • Board certification in sports psychology preferred.
  • Experience conducting psychological evaluations and psychotherapy with children, adolescents, and adults.
  • Experience and comfort working as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Must be licensed (or license eligible) as a clinical psychologist by the Virginia Board of Psychology.
  • Certification or advanced training in any of the below evidence-based modalities preferred (advanced training in other modalities also considered):
