Mission and Vision

Children’s Specialty Group’s Mission and Vision:
I. PROVIDE HIGH QUALITY CARE
As health care delivery continuously changes, the needs of individual patients will remain our first priority. We also recognize that physicians are assuming the responsibility for managing the health care of populations. Our commitment to quality will be achieved by the following:
CSG will create and maintain high standards for membership. These may include strict credentialing criteria, requirements for continuing medical education, and ongoing performance evaluations.
CSG will develop and implement programs for continuous quality improvement, including measurement and documentation of clinical outcomes. The programs may involve participation with the Children’s Health System and the EVMS Department of Pediatrics.
CSG will develop and implement clinical care pathways and guidelines in conjunction with the Children’s Health System and the EVMS Department of Pediatrics.
CSG will maintain active involvement in academic activities such as medical education and research through its relationship with the EVMS Department of Pediatrics.
II. PROVIDE EXCELLENT SERVICE
CSG will provide excellent service to patients, payors, the Children’s Health System, and referring physicians through the following:
CSG members recognize that good customer service is valuable.
CSG will develop and implement methods of measurement and documentation, such as customer surveys.
CSG will create incentives for providing good service.
III. PROVIDE EFFICIENT, COST-COMPETITIVE HEALTH CARE
CSG realizes the importance of applying business administration and management principles to the delivery of healthcare.
Individual members will be encouraged to become interested in and knowledgeable of business aspects of health care delivery.
CSG will retain the professional expertise necessary to design, direct, and implement its business activities.
CSG will create an efficient governance structure consisting of a physician board of directors and a CEO with business management and health care administration expertise.
Organization, governance, and operations will be structured such that performance expectations are clear and obtainable, and will promote efficient use of resources.
Divisions and their leaders will be expected to design and implement their own efficient medical delivery systems and business operations. The CSG Management Committee and other related committees may provide assistance and coordination where appropriate.
CSG will create incentives for efficient operations, clinical productivity, and the realization of cost savings.
IV. PROMOTE MEDICAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH
CSG, in collaboration with the EVMS Department of Pediatrics and the Children’s Health System, will develop, implement, and report clinical research programs related to improving the health of children.
CSG will provide didactic and clinical teaching to medical students and residents.
CSG will provide clinical education to community physicians other medical personnel, and the public.
CSG will seek opportunities to secure external funding for research and educational programs.
CSG members will participate in administrative functions related to EVMS and the Department of Pediatrics.
V. ENHANCE RELATIONSHIPS WITH HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS AND DELIVERY SYSTEMS
CSG will seek a close relationship with Children’s Health System in an effort to create and grow the premier pediatric integrated delivery system in Hampton Roads. Through this relationship we can collectively address issues related to clinical outcomes, patient and parent satisfaction, shared financial incentives, information management, and shared management of physician-hospital related activities.
CSG will seek to enhance relationships with other providers, especially primary care physicians and surgeons.
CSG will develop and enhance its relationship with EVMS and the Department of Pediatrics by providing medical education, clinical teaching, administrative participation where appropriate, and continued participation in research.
CSG will foster positive community relationships by being a good “corporate citizen.”
CSG will market its value (high quality at an appropriate cost) to customers and the community.
VI. DEVELOP AN ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE
CSG will develop an organizational culture and reputation that will become recognized and respected by its members and customers. This culture will evolve through the continuous reevaluation of our strategic goals and objectives; recognition of our clinical, academic, and financial achievements; and through continued strengthening of relationships between members and divisions within CSG.
